She starts to speak, but he walks away As the storm clouds rise and the palm branches sway on Black Diamond Bay. A soldier sits beneath the fan doing business with a tiny man who sells him a ring. The desk clerk heard the woman laugh as he looked around in the aftermath, and the soldier got tough. As the sun went down and the music did play on Black Diamond Bay. The soldier and the tiny man were crouched in the corner thinking of forbidden love. As the island slowly sank the loser finally broke the bank in the gambling room.
As the fire burns on and the smoke drifts away from Black Diamond Bay. It seems there was an earthquake that left nothing but a Panama hat and a pair of old Greek shoes. And Alabama Getaway - Bob Dylan - A Highway Of Diamonds Vol.3 - Covers 88-89 (CD) never did plan to go anyway to Black Diamond Bay. This is great, thanks. Thanks Jeff for the excellent column and the reminder of this song and also the Desire album. I always link Desire and Blood on the Tracks, mainly because they both remind me of college.
But I think a what makes Desire unique is the violin playing of Scarlet Rivera. She was quite the new sensation at the time. Apparently the two met when Dylan saw her walking down the street with her violin case! I used to wonder whatever happened to her but not long ago I discovered her website. She mainly plays new age and world music now.
Anyway, your column has prompted me to dig out the Blood on the Tracks and Desire LPs and give Alabama Getaway - Bob Dylan - A Highway Of Diamonds Vol.3 - Covers 88-89 (CD) a listen for the first time in decades. I guess the reason is that there was a 5-year drought before BotT in from New Morning, and much longer one after Desire I really, really recommend that Alabama Getaway - Bob Dylan - A Highway Of Diamonds Vol.3 - Covers 88-89 (CD) search out the NY takes of BotT.
Some of the songs are significantly better. Bob is a force of nature. Street legal while not on the same par overall matches the lyrical quality and even Love and Theft matches it overall while not having any songs as good as BDB Dont like Sara but think Mozambique is really good?
To each his own I suppose but you have strange tastes. Black Diamond Bay, for me, is a bland song. It sounds like something Yosef Ovadia might have said, Alabama Getaway - Bob Dylan - A Highway Of Diamonds Vol.3 - Covers 88-89 (CD). The Everly Brothers and Jerry Lee were also kids Alabama Getaway - Bob Dylan - A Highway Of Diamonds Vol.3 - Covers 88-89 (CD) out of nowhere. And those scraps he gave to them are just that.
