I will be eating dust for the next few months, but completely worth it with my treasured releases. I live a 10 minute walk from Rough Trade Talbot rd. It was us who kept them going. Next year still be the Brotherhood of Man Classic box set revival. I love RSD there are some nice little gems, and something for everyone. What really gets my goat is the people who rush out to buy them and double the price on Ebay.
I managed to get what I wanted bar Suede. I will grit my teeth one day and see if there is a copy at a reasonable price. Billboard reported that the soundtrack was a US release only. I was lucky that a friend from the US could get me a copy of this morning. Annoyed that some of these releases are exclusive to certain countries. Canada always get shafted :.
Good crack at Sound it Out in Stockton — Loads available and as per usual always ended up trying something new. Top 4 on the bay seems to be piper lots and lots the cure mixed the zeppelin single And lots lots and lots of Bowie. Makes you wonder how many were made. Of the other odd releases where do they go? So although many would say its all about profiteers lots of people must be collecting. I myself had to work so had to use ebay in my breaktime. So no fun for me. I think on balance it is still a worthwhile event.
Great day. Popped into Manchester about Got some 2nd hand as well whilst in town. So all good, no real fuss. Angers me so much, but this just sums up RSD for me and gets worse every year. Have to say that this year was a much better experience than last year. Although I did pick up a couple of items later in the year off discogs for the same prices, it hardly made me feel love for RSD. I looked around and there were stacks of U2 pic discs.
Radiation Records here in my hometown: Rome. Got there Will visit another store Vinyl Strike in a matter of minutes :. As Plymouth does not have a distributor taking part I had my own RSD, the local HMV the usual been in one been in them all stuff, local indoor market with second hand vinyl and cds good stuff but in some cases HMV was cheaper especially on cds and the local charity shops with the usual X Factor related and Robbie Williams multiple copies of the same cds, all a bit bland but fun.
First come, first served policy, but you had to find it box, shelf, display yourself. There was only one guy I was really suspicious of he picked up and kept everything he could carry, Album), more than eclectic mix ; everyone else truly seemed to be in it for their collection. The one sad thing was how many people just paid for their RSD goodies and left — this is a BIG shop, lots you could find.
Me and some friends always make a day of it — participating shop first, other shop next, flea market last. There are precisely three independent record stores involved in RSD in Northern Ireland population 1. So, for that store, they have a new occasional customer through RSD. I do this because I love records and the experience of browsing but also because I want to see a local record shop like this thrive.
The owners did a great job of tying up with other local retailers, organising a record fare as you stated and even had a piper keeping people entertained at the door.
It was a great effort. I am in two minds about RSD though following my experiences today. The shop opened at 9AM this morning but I was up and about so I arrived at What I saw was a massive queue around the block, a quick estimate of which showed to people queing.
Now this is a small record shop honestly only 10 people can fit in at once with a small local regular clientele and my heart sank. And it seemed really obvious that they were flippers. I saw people on ebay on their phones for goodness sake. It was horrible as it felt like a violation of something I love and treasure. I went home, had a cuppa and went back a few hours later and, although there was still a smallish queue, it took me 30 minutes in total to get in, get browsing and get what I wanted.
I had a LP chat with a few people I knew but that was that. There were some key items out of stock obviously but that was Album) be expected. Where are all these record buying consumers the rest of the year? There were easily thousands of record buyers there today before noon but how can other record shops be going out of business your example of Head in Belfast in this world if this is the case.
From what I have seen I think RSD is essential for the retailer but for us regular shoppers and lovers of vinyl, RSD seems like nothing more than a horrible sideshow to be honest.
RSD has indeed lost its way. I too went to X-Records in Bolton, where they have a second hand basement, which was totally empty! Got all but Floyd and what an expense it all us which I picked up in Prestwich.
Beans on toast now until payday! In my store there where really a lot of Bowie releases. Everyone who wants one has one, and there are a lot more there. This year was realy bad there. This event could help revitalize the CD market if they would offer some limited or fun releases. Shame could I would actually participate and spend a bunch of money. Good experience again at vinyl and vintage Wolverhampton Orderly queue But gotta get early Album) a top 15 place Number one was straight from pub Friday night No 13 was me at 4.
Got there at for the 8 am opening…about 50 people ahead of me in the queue. Lots of interesting stuff in the USA this year, sadly no Undertones box set…. Had hoped for Tom Waits and Iggy Pop, not available…. When the interesting titles are distributed so poorly there is no other way to get then then via eBay. Looks like the true rare gems are always exclusive to the big cities. Now THAT is the real shame. Sad for collectors who miss the offerings and must pay the inflated internet prices.
Triply sad that no CDs are on offer. Last time they tried a Tori Amos CD, but I never was able to find it anywhere — not even a store that carried it. I actually bought two…kept one and sold the other to s friend…just saw an orange vinyl today among older RSD titles still around…. Well — I decided to travel into Soho, London late-ish expecting that things would have died down a bit as Sister Ray et al open at However I was totally wrong — huge queues.
Still decided to brave it despite currently being on crutches. They ask you what you want while you are in the queue to make sure that you are not queuing needlessly and they also try to keep you updated as things sell out. They also try to point you to other stores that have things when they dont. Finally they give you a list so you can tick what you intend to buy and the have it ready for you all bagged up when you get to the front.
Really wanted a second copy of Dead Bees for a friend in Australia but understandably and rightly I think they limit everyone to a single copy. So despite a two hour wait and lots of pain I am pretty happy the only thing I didnt get was the Undertones box. Mine went well. Could have easily spent twice what I did — was tempted by Pink Floyd but left it on the shelf. Bought the two items I wanted from Amazon last night and had a lie in this morning.
Multiple items for sale. RSD is a joke :. Queued for an hour at my local indie. The store was very well organised and LP when you went in what you wanted and found them for you, not a bad morning. I visited my local independent record emporium on RSD a couple of years ago. I remember when RSD first started there was a good mix of CD and vinyl but nowadays, unless you own a turntable, forget it.
The Undertones box set looks nice but I doubt many people who buy it will play any of the records and the pleasure comes from owning something rare that will appreciate in value instead of the music therein. They could have just used cardboard replicas instead of vinyl!
Nonetheless, happy hunting for all RSD enthusiasts. A bit unfair — I was hoping to pick up the Undertones box because of the quality of the music therein — it would definitely have been played.
Sadly they were gone pretty quickly from Sister Ray in Soho…. Time to listen to these new remixes by The Cure. Picking up on the RSD in Europe comments — certainly is the case that they will see before RSD and even ship requests before RSD — a good mate of mine managed to get everything he wanted without paying inflated prices or excessive postage fees and they arrived today!!
He was kind enough to get me 6 items that we had talked about that I would have wanted so the beers are on me! Got my goodies nice n early. Hope you all got what you wanted. Local stores have litteraly not stock or… I just went back from one of my favorite little music store and they tell me that a guy was there at the opening, buy almost all their stock, … RSD is just a thing for people to make money.
It was the last time i woke up for you. This is not the good vibes it was. And for true lovers of music i hope you could have get the record you wanted.
Blooming ace day so far! Got most of what I was hoping for in a real friendly atmosphere well played drift records and now enjoying pre lunch pint of jail ale with very patient wife and daughter. Hope everyone gets what you want. It looked like all Frankie Goes To Hollywood envelope sets were damaged! A real shame as it should have been a proper box just like the Rage Hard box set. Not a surprise re Frankie.
Got to store at and queue was still there. Apparantely the brave ones were there at 2am and were given free Cista coffee vouchers and queue numbers at 6am allowing them to take a break and not lose their place…. Fellow Bolan admirer second to arrive. We chatted to ish and both secured Bolan Boogie and Final Cuts.
Thanks to all at PB. Bolan vinyl likes to rock now…. Also got both Bolan vinyls at a reasonable price and am quite happy! I like to put my hands up under my monitor and pretend it is me fondling the vinyl, sleeves, posters, stickers, …. The first had their rsd stock out for sale in a box and the second, I asked if they were participating in rsd and they proceeded to get their stock out and let me browse and make my purchases… all at non inflated prices and all before today Saturday is it just us brits that get caught up in the drama of it all?
RSD in New Zealand was completely different. The doors opened at 10am. I got their at 9am thinking I was late. As it goes I was first.
